That he has written the screenplay is just a part of this happy occurrence. The music by Laxmikant Pyarelal is soft and has a no of melodious songs and the main song is still very popular. In the village he soon gets around to doing his job with much sincerity and dedication. The drama in the story is somewhat based on the fact that in those days very few village people could read and write their own letters- and the responsibility of the same then rested upon the village postman- who thus became an essential part of their lives. A simply charming romantic movie. Couldn’t bear to watch more than half an hour.
The music by Laxmikant Pyarelal is soft and has a no of melodious songs and the main song is still very popular. The story really picks up in the second half and the light hearted movie leaves one wanting more at the end. Must Watch Rajesh Khanna Films. When he returns, the news arrives that Mohini’s beloved is no more and has lost his life in the war. The movie has some wonderful moments and has fabulous acting by Rajesh Khanna.
In my opinion today’s generation of stars never think plkon to perform in such type of sober films, which has no cheap duologue, song or item dance etc. But everything- be it the dialogues or the treatment, or even the look given to the lead actors- looks straight out of the Gulzar school of film-making. There are many instances of humor, though like in all other Gulzar movies, they are quite understated.
Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein
This Rajesh Khanna and Hema Malini film is though not directed by the maestro himself, but by Meraj, who was an assistant to the man in most his earlier directorial ventures. Five minutes into the movie, and you can make out it is a Gulzar film. The kindest thing I can say is that perhaps paklon director Meraj signed Rajesh Khanna by mistake, and lacked the budget to work through the superstar’s eccentricities.
Allah megh de, Dakhiya Dakh Laya, and Koi mere mathe pe bindiya The movie has some wonderful moments and has fabulous acting by Rajesh Khanna. If you want to see Rajesh Khanna’s hair change from his older short style to movis newer “sufi” style and back every five minutes, see this movie. Rest of the songs are ok and “Dakiya daak laya” is good and situational. But wafch himself, Ravi decides to go the city and look for this soldier who had not written to Mohini despite his many promises.

He mistakes her affection for something more, and falls in love, while she is still waiting for a somewhat philandering Army officer Jeetendra with whom she has had a fling with when his battalion is training near her village.
Actually apart from the aforementioned forced sort of scenes that were also out paljon place because particularly those scenes looked contrived so much so that even the village looked like a set in those few scenes and not like a real indian village.
Find showtimes, watch trailers, browse photos, track your Watchlist and rate your favorite movies and TV shows on your phone or tablet! Rajesh Khanna puts in an earnest act, and quite underplays his character for most parts.

Hema Malini puts in a strong performance also and one feels sad for her character. I just learned from other reviewers that the director Meraj was a Gulzar assistant and it shows. Actually no director can even imagine them to perform in such type of sober characters. It wxtch easy to make out that he was a very fine actor, and thus his fall from fame appears more baffling though perhaps that had more to do with his off-screen issues.
This is just like a Gulzar movie and it’s lovely. The story is about unemployed graduate Ravi played by Rajesh Khanna who unexpectedly gets the job of a postman in a village. meiin
One feels one is seeing a Gulzar movie. The rest of the story deals with the secret and how it changes everyone’s lives.
This love story of hers completely shatters Ravi’s heart, who had genuinely felt that Mohini’s affections were a result of them drawing closer to one another with each passing day.
The drama in the story is somewhat based on the fact that in those days very few wath people could read and write their own letters- and the responsibility of the same then rested upon the village postman- who thus became an essential part of their lives.
Soon Ravi and Mohini start meeting everyday and Ravi falls in love with her, completely oblivious to the fact that she has very little interest in him- the person, and most of her attention is reserved for Ravi- the postman.
He falls for the village girl Mohini played by Hema Malini when he mistakes her eagerness to befriend the new village postman as her abiding interest in him personally. But this time, instead of Jeetendra, the moustache is donned by the then on the wane superstar, who gets to play a meaty author read Gulzar – backed role. Ravi’s one sided love, and his expression of the same through his sketches that are revealed at the endis quite endearing. I want to know what the other reviewers here were smoking when they saw this movie.
These include a senile old lady who awaits the return of her son, a young widow who has lost her husband in the war- but has not lost the zest for living, and a young lady named Mohini Hema Malini who to Ravi’s pleasant surprise appears more than willing to strike a companionship. He’s a charming lad with an affable personality and quick-witted and thus takes no time to endear himself to the villagers where he feels quite at home.
Jeetendra puts in a small role and Amzad Khan is there too. The music by Laxmikant Pyarelal is soft and has a no of melodious songs and the main song is still very popular. Here the song ‘Dakiya Daak Laya’ reflects on pretty much the same sentiment.
Ravi’s pleasing ways and respectful manners lead her to confide in him her relationship with this soldier Jeetendra 19777 a guest appearance.
Was this review helpful? This movie is a sweet love-story that deserves a watch by all those who like such village themes. A real all time family household film, which can be watched with daughter to grand-mother without any hesitation. And when you add the fact watcj it is almost a lost Gulzar film, it becomes a must watch for his fans.
The film slipped a bit in the first few village scenes when an unnecessary melodrama was attempted with little stories of other villagers like the insane old woman pining for her dead son and the cheerful army widow but those stories werent done very well and didnt elicit the expected emotions.
The most unique thing about the movie however, is that despite all its underlying tension; it retains a light-hearted spirit on the surface. The music is ok not spectacular like one expects from a Gulzar movie, esp the song “Allah Megh de” is just awful.
